World’s major organizations are getting the map of Pakistan wrong, and it is time that we start launching our protests, online or in person. Earlier this year, we saw major peaks and areas of Pakistan like K2, Nanga Parbat, Gilgit and Skardu as a part of India, in the google maps which created an air of protest as many people expected Google to come up with a reasonable response of such flawed mapping system. As we all know that Google maps are considered a valuable source of tracking down locations, and it is considered as one of the most authentic and reliable source of information when it comes to locations. However, this wrong information has raised many questions on the authenticity and clear mandate of google. Were there any deals going on behind the curtains to win the hearts of the Indians? Were there any hidden/unidentified business interests?
The same questions have been raised once again. During a book launch ceremony held in Islamabad, World Bank’s economist Vincet Palmade used a flawed map during his official presentation. The book launch was held at the annual meeting and conference arranged by the Ministry Of Planning And Development and Pakistan Institute Of Development Economics (PIDE). The map shown did not recognize AJK and Gilgit Baltistan as a part of Pakistan. Planning Commission’s top economist, Dr. Nadeem Javed said that Pakistan would go on protest for this wrong information and would ensure that this map does not appear on the book ‘South Asia’s Turn: Policies to Boost Competitiveness and Create the Next Export Powerhouse’.
